Visual Rhetoric

The image of the woman’s face being completely ruined by a drunk driver shows a very strong emotional as well as ethical appeal to the reader. The audience clearly sees the effects of driving under the influence. The main point this ad makes is, "Not everyone who gets hit by a drunk driver dies." This is very important because people who survive after being struck by a drunk driver live their lives in misery and anguish. As stated in the ad, "she is still working to put her life back together." Both statements appeal to the reader emotionally and the reader begins to feel much sympathy towards the woman and other people who have had their lives damaged. Now the reader feels and sees the effects of a drunk driver. As for the ethos or ethical appeal, people should not drink and drive. The ethical appeal is plain, simple and straight to the point which makes this ad stronger as well. In conclusion, this ad has strong emotional and ethical appeals and the audience clearly understands how driving under the influence can effect many innocent people's lives.

I agree with you on the ad. I can barely imagine what she has to go through in life. This may make viewers rethink about driving drunk.
